A day after the announcement of the Opposition alliance - Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA), Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) Chief Mayawati has said that her party will not enter into any alliances and will contest the upcoming Assembly elections in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Telangana independently.

While addressing a press conference in Delhi, Mayawati expressed her party’s determination to contest the elections alone and highlighted their focus on the aforementioned states. She criticised the alliance of 26 like-minded parties, INDIA, and accused the Congress party of aligning itself with ‘casteist and capitalist’ parties. She said that there was no difference between the BJP’s ‘kathni aur karni’ (what they say and what they do), just like the Congress. Mayawati further said that the casteist, anti-poor, and capitalist mentality of the Congress and the other parties is the reason why BSP has decided to contest the upcoming elections without the opposition’s INDIA. The BSP Supremo added that her party can have alliances with regional parties in Punjab and Haryana but with the condition that these parties should have no connection with the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) or the Congress-led alliance of Opposition parties.

The two-day meeting of the Opposition parties concluded yesterday in Bengaluru after agreeing to come under one name- Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (India) to challenge the NDA in the upcoming LS election.
