Indian rupee weakened against the US dollar on Monday, tracking a stronger American currency overseas. Moreover, surging crude prices and outflow of foreign funds from capital markets also dampened rupee sentiments. Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) were net sellers in the capital markets on Friday as they offloaded shares worth Rs 1,023.91 crore, exchange data showed. However, bullish move of Asian peers and expectations of more stimulus measures in China, limited further fall in rupee. On the global front, China’s yuan rose after slightly better than expected PMI reading and another daily fix by the PBoC that indicated support for the currency.

The partially convertible currency is currently trading at 82.25, weaker by 7 paise from its previous close of 82.18 on Friday. The currency touched a high and low of 82.2975 and 82.21 respectively.
