The no-confidence motion against Modi government in Lok Sabha (LS) will be taken for discussion on August 8 and Prime Minister Narendra Modi likely to reply on August 10.

LS Speaker Om Birla today chaired a Business Advisory Committee (BAC) meeting to end the ongoing parliamentary logjam and to discuss legislative agenda for the remaining part of the session. During the meeting, constituents of the INDIA alliance demanded that no- confidence motion should be taken up immediately and they boycotted the committee meeting. The meeting witnessed heated exchanges between opposition leaders and ministers from the ruling side. At end of the meeting, the Speaker allocated three days from August 8-10, for debate on no- confidence motion. Deputy leader of the Congress in the LS Gaurav Gogoi had moved a no-confidence motion on July 26 against the alleged government failure of governance in Manipur.

Meanwhile, Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge has sought an appointment with President Droupadi Murmu to address the Manipur issue on behalf of the opposition parties. They have claimed that the violence in the BJP-ruled northeastern state is continuing and many people have lost their lives. Sources indicated that a meeting with the President has not yet been scheduled.
