Rupee weakens against US dollar on Tuesday

Indian rupee weakened against the US dollar on Tuesday tracking weak trend in domestic equities with caution ahead of the Reserve Bank of India's monetary policy decision due on Thursday. Meanwhile, investors are also focusing on the US inflation data due on Thursday for further outlook of the US Federal Reserve. Moreover, strong American currency, firm crude oil prices and foreign fund outflows from the capital markets also adding pressure on rupee. Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) were net sellers in the capital markets on Monday as they offloaded shares worth Rs 1,892.77 crore, exchange data showed.

The partially convertible currency is currently trading at 82.80, weaker by 5 paise from its previous close of 82.75 on Monday. The currency touched a high and low of 82.8325 and 82.79 respectively.
