India’s tea exports likely to rise by 9% in 2013

04 Apr 2013 Evaluate

India’s tea export is expected to grow by over 9% in 2013 supported by a strong demand for orthodox tea in many countries. The country is likely to export over 220 million kg of tea in 2013 compared with 201 million kg in 2012. Tea exports from India in 2011 stood at 215.42 million kg.

Meanwhile, the country had exported 156.38 million kg of tea during Apr-Dec 2012, down by 8% as compared to 169.65 million kg of tea exported in the year-ago period. The decline in tea export was on account of lower shipments to key buyers Russia and United Kingdom. Russian Federation is the largest market for Indian Tea with a share of around 19% followed by United Kingdom with 10%.
