Rupee strengthens against US dollar on Tuesday

Indian Rupee strengthened against the US dollar on Tuesday, tracking firm domestic equities and as the American currency retreated from its elevated levels. However, concerns over foreign fund outflows and deteriorating economic situation in China limited further gains. Foreign Institutional Investors were net sellers in the capital markets on Monday as they offloaded shares worth Rs 1,901.10 crore, exchange data showed. Meanwhile, investors are eagerly awaiting US Federal Reserve's Jackson Hole symposium later this week with expectations that the US Fed could keep interest rates higher for longer.

The partially convertible currency is currently trading at 83.08, stronger by 5 paise from its previous close of 83.13 on Monday. The currency touched a high and low of 83.0925 and 83.06 respectively.
