Asian markets settle mostly higher on Monday

Asian markets settled mostly higher on Monday after mixed US jobs data released on Friday lifted expectations that the US central bank will not hike interest rates this year. Chinese and Hong Kong shares led gains after China's top economic planner said it would establish new department to help private businesses, the latest step by the government to revive confidence in the sector and bolster growth. China's largest property developer Country Garden shares surged nearly 15% after its creditors agreed over the weekend to restructure the repayment of a renminbi-denominated bond. Japanese shares gained by tracking Wall Street gains last Friday, and weaker yen also boosted investor sentiments.
