Asian markets settle mostly lower on Thursday

07 Sep 2023 Evaluate
Asian markets settled mostly down on Thursday due to concerns over slowing growth in China. China's exports dipped 8.8% year-on-year to $284.87 billion, while imports fell 7.3% to $216.51 billion in August. China’s total trade surplus in August fell to $68.36 billion from $80.6 billion in July. Meanwhile, surging crude oil prices and inflation fears also kept investors cautious. Japanese shares declined by tracking weak Wall Street shares overnight as Boston Fed President Susan Collins said the US Fed will need to maintain higher interest rates for longer to bring down stubbornly high inflation.
