Bharti Airtel, a leading integrated telecommunications company has got clearance from Myanmar authorities for the application of acquiring a telecom license in that country. Along with Airtel, 11 other international operators are invited to participate in the third and final stage of the license award process. The entity had put in a bid to acquire fresh licence in Myanmar to spread its footprint in Asia. The licences will be issued by June and may last as long as 20 years with an option for renewal.
The entity can still lose the deal because there are 12 applicants shortlisted by the Myanmar Government and only two will be selected. The other applicants include Vodafone, Telenor, SingTel and China Mobile. The expression of interest floated by Myanmar for two telecom licenses received application from 91 companies.
