Senior BJP leader and former chief minister (CM) of Karnataka BS Yediyurappa today said that the BJP would form an alliance with the Janata Dal (Secular) for the 2024 Lok Sabha (LS) elections. Yediyurappa announced that JDS will contest in four seats in Karnataka, which has a total of 28 constituencies.

While addressing the media about the alliance Yediyurappa said. ‘I am happy that Deve Gowda ji met our Prime Minister and already they have discussed the alliance & finalised about four seats for which I welcome them.’ He also said that this has given a great strength and this will help in winning 25 or 26 Lok Sabha seats together. The developments come months after JD(S) supremo Deve Gowda in July said that the JDS will fight the LS elections in Karnataka independently without any tie up with the BJP-led NDA in the recent past. This alliance will extend to both the Lok Sabha and local body elections in the state.

In the 2019 Karnataka elections, the BJP won 25 seats, while a party-backed candidate also emerged victorious. The Congress and JD(S) secured one seat each.
