TN Govt fixes crop loan disbursal target of Rs 4,500 crore for 2013-14

The government of Tamil Nadu has fixed the crop loan disbursal target of Rs 4,500 crore for the year 2013-14, as per the policy note for 2013-14 tabled before the State Assembly. This amount is Rs 500 crore higher than the allocated target for the previous year.

The crop loan will be interest-free to farmers who repay promptly. An amount of Rs 160 crore has also been set apart for the interest incentive in the Annual Budget. As on February 28, 2013, crop loan to the tune of Rs 3,728.74 crore was distributed to over 9.17 lakh farmers.

Besides, the state government has proposed to allocate Rs 4,900 crore towards food subsidy in 2013-14, with the major chunk going towards rice distribution programmes. For ration card-holders and those covered under Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY), the government has proposed allocating Rs 3,173.11 crore towards distribution of rice at no cost.
