Asian markets settle mostly lower on Tuesday

12 Sep 2023 Evaluate
Asian markets settled mostly lower on Tuesday ahead of key US inflation data that could influence the Federal Reserve's rate trajectory. Chinese shares declined, even as property giant Country Garden Holdings soared after creditors voted to extend repayments on six onshore bonds by three years. However, Japanese shares rose as comments from US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen boosted expectations that the American economy is headed toward a soft landing. Japanese currency yen's retreat boosted exporters, including auto makers.
