Asian markets settle mostly higher on Thursday

14 Sep 2023 Evaluate
Asian markets settled mostly higher on Thursday after a highly anticipated US inflation report fuelled expectations that the US Federal Reserve will leave interest rates unchanged next week. Data showed that US consumer prices increased 3.7 percent year-on-year in August from 3.2 percent in July, and slightly ahead of the estimated 3.6 percent. Japanese shares gained, despite data showed Japan's core machinery orders declined more than expected in July. Meanwhile, Chinese and Hong Kong shares rose marginally despite the European Union launching an anti-subsidy investigation into Chinese electric vehicles.
