Asian markets end mostly higher on Tuesday

10 Oct 2023 Evaluate
Asian markets ended mostly higher on Tuesday as the US dollar and bond yields retreated after dovish remarks by the US Federal Reserve officials. US Fed Vice Chair Philip Jefferson said the central bank was in a position to ‘proceed carefully’ after a recent rise in treasury yields, while Fed member Lorie Logan from Fed Bank of Dallas stated the recent surge in long-term US bond rates may mean there is less need for further tightening. Japanese shares surged as trading resumed after a long holiday weekend. Although, investors are cautiously watching the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas. Chinese shares declined after property developer Country Garden failed to make an international debt payment after its apartment sales dropped in September and warned it might not meet all offshore payment obligations in time.
