Wheat procurement in Punjab crosses 3.65 lakh tonnes

The procurement of wheat in Punjab state has picked up its momentum as around 365,512 tonnes of wheat were procured by government agencies and private millers. Out of total procurement of 365,512 tonnes of wheat in all the procurement centers of Punjab, the government agencies procured 361,442 tonnes of wheat till date whereas private traders procured 4,070 tonnes of wheat.

PUNGRAIN procured 49,723 tonnes constituting 13.06% of total procurement; MARKFED procured 94,949 tonnes constituting 26% of total procurement whereas PUNSUP had procured 78,365 tonnes constituting 21.04% of total procurement. PSWC procured 38,691 tonnes constituting 10.06% of total procurement whereas PAIC was able to procure 54,912 tonnes constituting 15% of total procurement of wheat. The Central Government agency FCI had been able to procure 44,802 tonnes constituting 12.03%.

In a bid to monitor the largest ever procurement operation, the state government had deputed more than eight secretary level officers, activated more than 1,750 procurement centres and activated its total machinery to ensure smooth procurement of wheat. The state government has constituted Dispute Redressal Committees in every mandi/purchase center along with issuing strict instructions that payment to the farmers have to be ensured within 48 hours of lifting of the wheat from the mandis.

In case of emergencies farmers can contact the 24 hours control room located at Chandigarh headquarter and also in district offices. Theses control rooms have been established by the food and civil supplies department. The Punjab Mandi Board has also made arrangements of water and shades for farmers.  Besides, the state government has made all arrangements in order to ensure lifting of wheat within 72 hours of purchase for facilitation of farmers and artiahs.

Further, Punjab Mandi Board and Food and Civil Supplies department have constituted teams for raids during the purchase season across the state and in any kind of difficulty farmers could directly approach these teams or food and civil supplies department.
