Copper futures settled higher on Wednesday, supported by better-than-forecasted economic data from the world’s top metals consumer China, despite concerns over risk of widening conflict in the Middle East, while investors awaited US Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell’s speech for further clues on the Fed’s interest rate path.

Copper futures for December delivery gained $0.0085 to settle at $3.5870 a pound on the Comex metals division of New York Mercantile Exchange. Copper on the London Metal Exchange was up by 0.03 percent at $7,972.50 a ton.
