Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) has fined Bharat Petroleum Corporation (BPCL) for not installing pollution control devices at their petrol pumps. BPCL has been fined Rs 2 crore. The company has received notice under Section 5 of Environment (Protection) Act, 1986 to pay environmental compensation of Rs 2 crore to CPCB for non-installation of Vapour Recovery Systems within the timeline prescribed by Supreme Court and CPCB, in petrol refuelling stations and storage terminals.
BPCL is into exploration, production and retailing of petroleum and petrol related products. The retail business unit of BPCL is into marketing of petrol, diesel and kerosene.
