Copper futures settled higher on Tuesday after the world’s top metals consumer China announced plans to issue additional sovereign bonds worth 1 trillion yuan to support the economy. However, firm American currency and potential for additional US Federal Reserve interest rate hikes limited further gains in copper prices.

Copper futures for December delivery gained $0.0375 to settle at $3.6240 a pound on the Comex metals division of New York Mercantile Exchange. Copper on the London Metal Exchange was up by 1 percent at $8,051.50 a ton.
