Asian markets settle mostly higher on Wednesday

01 Nov 2023 Evaluate
Asian markets settled mostly higher on Wednesday as traders awaited the US Federal Reserve's interest-rate decision later in the day. Japanese shares led gains in Asia after the Bank of Japan loosened its grip on government bond yields. Meanwhile, the Bank of Japan kept short-term interest rate unchanged in line with market forecasts. However, mounting worries over Middle East tensions limited further gains. Hong Kong shares fell after China's manufacturing activity contracted in October with data showing that China's Caixin/S&P Global manufacturing PMI declined to 49.5 in October from 50.6 in September, and missing forecasts of 50.8.
