Ambuja Cements, India’s leading cement maker, shipments in September rose 2.31 percent from a year ago to 15.51 lakh tonnes. The company’s, in which Swiss cement maker Holcim holds about 46 percent, production in September declined marginally by 1.55 percent to 14.61 lakh tonnes from 14.84 lakh tonnes a year earlier.
Cumulative despatches of the company during the January-September period jumped by 2.81% to 157.96 lakh tones against 153.64 lakh tones during the corresponding period a year ago.
Earlier, the company’s shipments in August rose 2.65 percent from a year ago to 15.08 lakh tonnes.
The company’s net profit for the quarter ended June 30, 2011 slipped by 11.17% at Rs 347.50 crore as compared to Rs 391.21 crore for the same quarter last year. Its total income increased by 6.19% to Rs 2245.22 crore for the quarter under review from Rs 2114.30 crore for the corresponding quarter of the previous year.
