Social meliorist Anna Hazare has warned Congress government that if the latter fails to pass Lokpal Bill in winter season of Parliament, he would appeal to voters in five states that go to polls next year. According to Hazare, on Parliament adopting resolution to include three demands, he ended fast at Ramlila Maidan.

"If the Jan Lokpal bill is not passed in the winter session of Parliament, then I will undertake a four-day hunger strike in Lucknow, three days before the polling date. I will appeal to the citizens not to vote Congress for failing to pass the Jan Lokpal bill."  He also added that if the bill is not passed in winter session, government will once again set an example of dishonesty.

Lokpal bill, inspired by the Hong Kong Independent Commission Against Corruption, is believed to deter corruption and may entangle many corrupt politicians. It was first introduced by Shanti Bhushan in 1969. However, the same was dissolved and lapsed, before it could be passed. The Subsequent versions were re-introduced in 1971, 1977, 1985, 1989, 1996, 1998, 2001, 2005 and in 2008 but none of them passed.
