Asian markets settle mostly higher on Friday

15 Dec 2023 Evaluate
Asian markets settled mostly higher on Friday tracking Wall Street gains overnight with expectations of deeper US rate cuts in 2024. Japanese shares rose as the yen weakened after touching a four-and-a-half month high. Meanwhile, markets expects that the Bank of Japan will maintain its ultra-dovish stance at its policy meeting next week. However, Chinese shares declined after release of mixed economic data. China's industrial output grew more than expected in November, although the readings on retail sales and fixed asset investment pointed to continued weakness in the world’s second-largest economy.
