Asian markets settled mixed on Tuesday amid tamer-than-expected US consumer price growth data bolstered expectations that the US Federal Reserve will cut interest rates next year. Meanwhile, trade was very thin as some markets including Hong Kong, and Indonesia closed for Christmas holidays. Japanese shares gained marginally as the Japanese yen steadied near its recent five-month peak on the prospect that the Bank of Japan will soon end its ultra-easy policy. Chinese shares fell on heavy selling of technology and computer chip-related shares.
