Reliance Communications (RCom) is close to sealing a tower-sharing deal with telecom firm Reliance Jio Infocomm. As per the deal, RCom's tower arm Reliance Infratel would provide around 30,000 telecom towers on a rental basis to Reliance Jio. Meanwhile, both the companies currently are in a discussion for a monthly rental of Rs 17,000 per tower.
It is also reported that RCom may agree to lease out the towers at a lower rental, as it has excess capacity. Reliance Infratel has 45,000 towers and has an average tenancy ratio, or tenants per tower, of 1.67.
Both the companies in early April 2013, signed Rs 1,200 crore agreement for sharing of Rcom's Nationwide Optic Fiber Network. Under the terms of the agreement, Reliance Jio Infocomm will utilize multiple fiber pairs across Rcom’s 120,000 kilometres inter-city fiber optic network to provide a robust and future-proof backbone for rolling out its state-of-the-art 4G services.
