Asian markets settle mostly higher on Thursday

28 Dec 2023 Evaluate
Asian markets settled mostly higher on Thursday tracking Wall Street gains overnight and as US Treasury yields declined to seven-month lows on expectations for aggressive interest rate cuts by the US Federal Reserve. Chinese shares posted strong gains followed by a rebound in online gaming stocks. Seoul shares gained on strong foreign and institutional buying. Meanwhile, data showed that South Korea's industrial output rose last month amid a double-digit increase in semiconductor production. However, Japanese shares declined on yen’s strength, while the Bank of Japan (BoJ) Governor Kazuo Ueda said that he was in no rush to unwind the BoJ's ultra-loose monetary policy.
