Rajya Sabha (RS) Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar has rejected the request of the party's national convenor Arvind Kejriwal to appoint Raghav Chadha as the interim leader of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in the Upper House of Parliament.
Dhankhar, in a letter to Kejriwal, cited ‘This aspect is subject to ‘The Leaders and Chief Whips of Recognised Parties and Groups in Parliament (Facilities) Act. 1998’ and the Rules made thereunder. The request, not being in conformity to applicable legal regime, is not being acceded to.’ This decision comes after Kejriwal sought Chadha's appointment as the interim leader in light of the current Rajya Sabha AAP leader Sanjay Singh's judicial custody. With the request declined, Singh continues to hold the position of the AAP's leader in the Rajya Sabha.
