Bond yields edge higher on Wednesday

Bond yields edged higher on Wednesday as focus shifts back to U.S. Treasury yields that started the New Year with an uptick.

In the global market, U.S. Treasury yields climbed on Tuesday as 2024 trading kicked off and questions about the outlook for interest rates and the state of the economy remained. Furthermore, Oil prices rose slightly in early Asian trade on Wednesday amid continued concerns around shipping disruptions in the Red Sea and escalating tension in the Middle East.

Back home, the yields on new 10 year Government Stock were trading 1 basis point higher at 7.21% from its previous close of 7.20% on Tuesday.

The benchmark five-year interest rates were trading 2 basis points higher at 7.09% from its previous close of 7.07% on Tuesday.
