Asian markets settle mostly down on Wednesday

03 Jan 2024 Evaluate
Asian markets settled mostly down on Wednesday as doubts about early interest rate cuts triggered a selloff in technology shares. Meanwhile, investors were awaiting the latest FOMC meeting minutes along with US labour market data this week to gain insights into potential moves by the US central bank. Market sentiments weakened further by tracking overnight falls in Wall Street as Barclays downgraded iPhone maker Apple’s shares to ‘underweight’ and US treasury yields ticked higher from multi-month lows. Hang Seng shares fell on concerns about China's economic recovery outlook. However, Chinese shares gained slightly after the Chinese government removed a top official in charge of regulating the China's gaming industry. Japanese market remained closed for a holiday.
