Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) candidates former Delhi Commission for Women chief Swati Maliwal, N.D. Gupta and Sanjay Singh today filed their nominations in Delhi for the upcoming Rajya Sabha (RS) elections.

The six-year tenure of Sanjay Singh, Sushil Kumar Gupta and ND Gupta in the RS is ending on January 27. Maliwal's name has been nominated by the party to replace Sushil Gupta. AAP has renominated N.D. Gupta and jailed party leader Sanjay Singh for their second terms. A Delhi Court on Sunday allowed Sanjay Singh to physically visit the returning officer for the RS election in connection with the filing of nomination papers. Singh has been lodged in jail in connection with Delhi excise policy-linked money laundering case. Maliwal resigned from the post of chief of the DCW on Friday after the AAP nominated her as its candidate for the RS elections.

After filing the nomination papers, Swati Maliwal said ‘I have just filled the nomination for Rajya Sabha and I'm very emotional. I want to thank Arvind Kejriwal, Manish Sisodia and Sanjay Singh for sending a common woman like me to the Rajya Sabha’. As per the Election Commission's schedule, polling will take place from 9 am- 4 pm in respective state assemblies, and votes will be counted from 5 pm on January 19.
