Reliance Communications increases tariffs by over 20%

Reliance Communications (RCOM), India's fully integrated telecommunications service provider has increased mobile phone tariffs by over 20%, for the second time in six months. With this initiative operator is looking for better profitability, in a market where the intensity of competition has weakened. It has increased the price of services offered under special pre-paid vouchers called Commitment Plans, however not changed headline tariffs.

In october last year, the company had increased headline tariffs by 25% from 1.2 paise a second to 1.5 paise a second.

The company, with a customer base of about 150 million, including over 2.5 million individual overseas retail customers, ranks among the Top 4 Telecom companies in the world by number of customers in a single country.
