Coal India’s arm plans to use solar energy

The world’s largest coal miner, Coal India’s (CIL) subsidiary - Central Mine Planning and Design Institute (CMPDI) is planning to use solar energy to light up offices and residential colonies of different subsidiaries of its parent organization which will also be later extend to mining areas. CMPDI will start it on a pilot project basis from its headquarters and residential colonies in Ranchi.

CIL expects to save at least 40% of the total electricity bill every month if solar energy is properly tapped. For this the company has entered into an agreement with a Gujarat-based public sector undertaking to get technological help and instruments for the work.
