The Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra led by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi will start from a private ground in the state's Thoubal district on January 14 instead of Manipur's capital Imphal.

Manipur Congress president Keesham Meghchandra said that permission was sought to start the yatra from Imphal's Hatta Kangjeibung ground but the state government gave permission on the condition that only 1,000 people would be allowed. After, a team of the state Congress met Chief Secretary Vineet Joshi in the presence of DGP Rajiv Singh, and the deputy commissioner (DC) and SP of Imphal East. Late on Thursday night, Thoubal DC gave permission for flagging off the Yatra from a private land in Khongjom area of the district. The new venue of the event is 34 kilometers away from the previously planned venue.

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge will flag off the Yatra from the new venue. Congress said that there would be no change in the route even though the venue had to be changed. After beginning in Manipur on January 14, the Yatra will end in Mumbai on March 20. It is scheduled to cover 6,713 km in 67 days while passing through 110 districts in 15 states.
