Y S Sharmila appointed new Congress president of Andhra Pradesh unit

16 Jan 2024 Evaluate

The Congress today appointed Y S Sharmila as the party’s new president of the Andhra Pradesh state unit. Sharmila is the daughter of former Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhar Reddy and the sister of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy.

YS Sharmila joined the Congress party on January 4 in Delhi in the presence of AICC chief Mallikarjun Kharge and party leader Rahul Gandhi. Sharmila recently merged her party YSRTP with the Congress party. An official announcement by the party said, ‘Congress president has appointed Y S Sharmila Reddy as the president of the Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee with immediate effect’. Lauding the Congress, Sharmila said it is the largest and ‘most secular’ party in the country as it unwaveringly serves all communities and unites all sections of people.

While, Gidugu Rudra Raju, who was earlier the APCC chief, resigned on Monday and handed over his resignation letter to Kharge. He has been appointed as special invitee to Congress Working Committee (CWC).
