Telangana strike has completed a month today. The agitation for Telangana region is a general strike supported by all sections of society. The government employees’ participation in the strike has paralyzed the administration.

Although government had invited Telangana employees' Joint Action Committee (JAC) for talks, however, the latter rejected the proposal asking government to back all the cases against its leaders first. "On the one hand the government is inviting us for talks while on the other it is booking cases against us. The atmosphere is not congenial for negotiations," JAC leader Swami Goud said.

Few unions in the region had called off the strike, however, some of its members continue to be off work. The state-owned Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) had called off strike yet the majority of 10,000 buses remained off the roads in Telangana for the 24th day. This has severely affected transport services in Hyderabad and eight other districts.

The strike has not only affected the Andhra Pradesh, however, its impact can be seen on neighboring states such as Maharashtra and Karnataka. Coal production from 50 mines of Singareni spread over four districts has been affected due to the strike by employees. This has led to shortage of coal and in turn triggered crisis in electricity generation and supply to the said states.

The impact was also seen on schools, colleges and other educational institutions which continue to remain close since last 30-days.

This strike is costing Rs 100 crore of revenue loss every day, excluding loss of Rs 25 crore from Singareni. According to JAC leaders, the strike is success despite government’s attempts of non-payment of salaries and festival advances, arrests and booking of cases.
