Asian markets settle mostly higher on Tuesday

23 Jan 2024 Evaluate
Asian markets settled mostly higher on Tuesday tracking Wall Street gains overnight, even as markets trade with caution ahead of central bank decisions due this week. Chinese shares gained after Premier Li Qiang called for more effective measures to stabilize China’s falling stock market. Policymakers are seeking to mobilize about 2 trillion yuan ($278 billion) as part of a stabilization fund to buy stocks onshore through the Hong Kong exchange link. Seoul shares gained, despite a pick-up in producer price inflation in December. However, Nikkei shares declined marginally, despite a fresh 34-year intraday high after the Bank of Japan maintained its ultraloose monetary policy.
