Asian markets end mostly higher on Wednesday

24 Jan 2024 Evaluate
Asian markets ended mostly higher on Wednesday, with Chinese and Hong Kong shares surging on reports that Chinese authorities are preparing a package of measures, mobilizing about 2 trillion yuan, to stabilize Chinese stock market. While, China’s gaming regulator removed proposed rules from its website in a surprising move. Investors were waiting for key US growth and inflation data due later in the week for clues on when the US Fed will cut interest rates. However, Japanese shares declined on profit taking after hitting 34-year highs, while the yen strengthened following slightly more hawkish tone by the Bank of Japan.
