Markets add gains in the special trading session

Indian equity markets added strength to their weekly gains in a short special trading session. BSE held a special live two-hour trading session in the derivatives, cash and Securities Lending and Borrowing Scheme (SLB) segment from its disaster recovery site, consequently a special live trading session was organized by the NSE and BSE on Saturday May 11 from 11.15 a.m. to 12.45 p.m. Though, foreign funds were not trading for the day but the BSE Sensex after some initial jitters kept its head above 20100 mark for most part of the trade with buying mainly emerging in healthcare, metal, PSU and FMCG sectors in view of sustained capital inflows from foreign funds. The overnight gains in the US markets too aided to the momentum. PSU oil marketing companies remained in limelight after hiking diesel prices by 90 paise per litre on Friday. It was the fourth hike in diesel prices since January when the government permitted state-run oil companies to hike the price of the fuel by 45-50 paise per litre per month. BPCL was up by 0.74%, HPCL gained 1.05% and IOC was up by 0.79%.

The BSE Sensex opened at 20091.93 and traded in a range of 20146.83 and 20055.18, finally closing at 20,122.32, up by 39.70 points or 0.20%. There were 1023 advances against 647 declines on the BSE. BSE Mid cap index ended higher by 0.31%, while the Small cap index added 0.33%.

The top gaining sectors on the BSE were, Healthcare up by 1.71%, Metal up by 0.58%, PSU up by 0.58%, FMCG up by 0.49% and Consumer Durables was up by 0.48%.

On the other hand IT was down by 0.28%, Power was down by 0.07%, TECk was down by 0.3%, CG was down by 0.3% and Realty was down by 0.1%.

Top gainers on the Sensex were, Dr Reddy’s was up by 3.39%, Sun Pharma was up by 1.87%, Sterlite Inds up by 1.30%, Coal India up by 1.28% and Cipla was up by 1.18%.

On the flipside, NTPC lost 0.64%, TCS was down by 0.46%, BHEL was down by 0.36%, Infosys was down by 0.36% and HDFC was down by 0.30%.

The CNX Nifty opened at 6,088.20 and after trading in a range of 6,114.55 and 6,084.15, closed higher by 12.50 points or 0.21% to 6,107.25. There were 35 advances against 15 declines on the index.

The top gainers of the Nifty were Dr Reddy up by 3.95%, Lupin up by 3.53%, Sun Pharma was up by 2.36%, Asian Paint was up by 2.18% and Coal India was up by 1.40%.

The top losers were, TCS down by 0.65%, Infy down by 0.53%, NTPC down by 0.52%, BHEL down by 0.51% and Tata Motors was down by 0.42%
