Hisar by-elections: Congress losses to Haryana Janhit Congress’ Kuldeep Bishnoi

17 Oct 2011 Evaluate

Haryana Janhit Congress’ (HJC) Kuldeep Bishnoi is elected to Lok Sabha winning from the Hisar disctrict in Haryana. Bishnoi has won by 355941 votes defeating Ajay Chuatala of Indian National Lok Dal who got 349618 votes and Congress’ Jai Prakash who got 149785 votes.

The results of Hisar district elections were eyed due to battle between anti-corruption socialist Anna Hazare and ruling Congress government to pass the Lokpal Bill. Hazare had warned government that if the latter fails to pass Lokpal Bill in winter season of Parliament, he would appeal to voters in five states including Hisar in Haryana that to cast their vote but not to Congress.

Bishnoi on winning the by-polls has declined any credit to Hazare and his team. "I attribute it only to my father and the (alliance with) BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party)," Bishnoi said.

Bishnoi is the son of former Haryana chief minister Bhajan Lal, a three-time chief minister expired in June 2011. Hisar seat had fallen vacant in June following Lal's death.
