BJP nominates JP Nadda, Ashok Chavan as RS candidates

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today nominated the party’s national President JP Nadda and newly inducted member Ashok Chavan for the upcoming Rajya Sabha Elections 2024. As per the list released, JP Nadda has been nominated from Gujarat, while Former Maharashtra Chief Minister Ashok Chavan has been fielded from Maharashtra. 

BJP's Medha Kulkarni has also been nominated from Maharashtra for the Rajya Sabha polls. In its list, the party has declared seven nominees -- four for Gujarat and three for Maharashtra. Apart from Nadda, BJP nominated Govindbhai Dholakia, Mayanbhai Nayak and Jashvantsinh Parmar from Gujarat. For Maharashtra, the party has named Medha Kulkarna and Ajit Gopchhade. Notably, Nadda is currently a Rajya Sabha member from Himachal Pradesh but the BJP does not have the numbers to win the lone seat from the Congress-ruled state. Earlier, the party named Union ministers Ashwini Vaishnaw and L Murugan their Rajya Sabha candidates from Odisha and Madhya Pradesh, respectively. 

The last date for filing nominations is February 15 and the scrutiny of nominations will be done on February 16. The Elections for 56 RS seats from 15 states will be held on February 27.
