Copper futures traded down on Tuesday, driven by stronger US dollar that makes copper more expensive for holders of other currencies. However, some losses were capped by demand hopes following falling inventory levels and China's first mortgage reference rate cut since June.
Copper futures for March delivery lost 0.76% or $0.0290 at $3.8095 a pound on the Comex metals division of New York Mercantile Exchange.
