Asian markets end mostly lower on Wednesday

28 Feb 2024 Evaluate
Asian markets ended mostly lower on Wednesday with caution ahead of the release of US and Eurozone inflation readings as well as Chinese PMI data this week. Meanwhile, persisting worries over interest rate cuts also weighed on market sentiments. Investors will be also looking out for comments from Federal Reserve officials, which could offer fresh insights into the US central bank's interest rate cut outlook. Chinese and Hong Kong shares sank due to increased concerns over China's beleaguered property market, with Country Garden Holdings grappled with a liquidation petition in a Hong Kong court over its failure to repay a 1.6 billion Hong Kong dollars loan. However, Seoul shares gained as South Korea's market watchdog chief warned that firms could face penalties for failing to boost shareholder returns in the long run. Moreover, Japanese shares declined on speculation about BoJ policy shift.
