Asian markets settle mostly lower on Tuesday

19 Mar 2024 Evaluate
Asian markets settled mostly lower on Tuesday as investors cautiously awaiting key central bank decisions this week for directional cues. Chinese shares declined after struggling Chinese property giant Evergrande and its founder have been accused of inflating revenues by $78 billion in the two years before the firm defaulted on its debt. However, Japanese shares gained, while the Japanese yen slid to 150 per dollar after the Bank of Japan decided to end its negative interest rate policy in its first interest rate hike in 17 years, marking a major shift away from the long-running monetary easing that Japan has seen over the past decade to put an end to deflation.
