Asian markets settle mixed on Wednesday

Asian markets settled mixed on Wednesday as investors digested the Bank of Japan’s move to end its negative interest rate policy at its March meeting, while awaiting the US Federal Reserve's policy meeting later in the day. Japanese markets were closed for Vernal Equinox Day holiday. Seoul shares gained as Samsung Electronics' shares spiked after reports that Nvidia unveiled the company's latest artificial intelligence chips. Chinese shares rose after China left benchmark lending rates unchanged at a monthly fixing on Wednesday, in line with market expectations. Data showing that the People's Bank of China held its one year and five-year loan prime rates steady at 3.45% and 3.95% respectively today after cutting the over-five-year rate by 25 basis points last month.
