Asian markets settle mostly higher on Thursday

21 Mar 2024 Evaluate
Asian markets settled mostly higher on Thursday tracking Wall Street gains overnight and bond yields declined as the US Federal Reserve left interest rates unchanged for a fifth straight meeting and maintained its forecast for three rate cuts this year, despite signs that inflation might stay elevated longer. South Korean shares surged after private report said the Bank of Korea will likely start cutting interest rates in July. Japanese shares rose as traders returned from a holiday, while data showed the country's exports grew for a third consecutive month offering support for the economy. However, Chinese shares fell due to concerns over persistent weakness in the property market.
