Eon Electric has established an indigenous manufacturing unit of lithium ion batteries used in mobile phones. It aims to manufacture 3 million batteries by 2014-15. Lithium ion batteries used in India are mostly coming from China, so the market is solely dependent on imports. The entity has decided to sell technology competitive batteries in the price range of Rs 150-200.
These batteries have a large demand among mobile phone companies and also in the replacement market which is mostly unorganized. Further, the company is also trying to tap the huge demand for secondary battery, which is expected to go up to a billion by 2014-15.
