42-day Telangana agitation called-off by TEJAC

The government employees agitating since last 42 days for separate Telangana region have called-off their strike. This decision was taken by leaders of Telangana Employees Joint Action Committee (TEJAC) post talks with chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy.

After several rounds of talks between government and TEJAC leaders, an agreement was signed wherein government has agreed all nine demands of the employees. The government also agreed to strike period as special leave and pay the salaries. The TEJAC's demand to withdraw cases booked against striking employees and reinstate those removed from service is also accepted. With TEJAC's decision, all sections of employees and workers in the region have called off their strike.

Agitation for separate Telangana region was supported by all sections of society. The government employees’ participation in the strike had paralyzed the administration. The strike had not only affected the Andhra Pradesh, however, its impact was also seen on neighboring states such as Maharashtra and Karnataka. Coal production from 50 mines of Singareni spread over four districts was affected due to the strike by employees, which led to shortage of coal and in turn triggered crisis in electricity generation and supply to the said states.
