Balmer Lawrie & Co soars on plan to acquire domestic tour operator

Balmer Lawrie & Company is currently trading at Rs. 400.15, up by 10.00 points or 2.56% from its previous closing of Rs. 390.15 on the BSE.

The scrip opened at Rs. 405.00 and has touched a high and low of Rs. 407.95 and Rs. 395.30 respectively. So far 12543 shares were traded on the counter.

The BSE group 'B' stock of face value Rs. 10 has touched a 52 week high of Rs. 407.95 on 30-May-2013 and a 52 week low of Rs. 315.57 on 30-Jul-2012.

Last one week high and low of the scrip stood at Rs. 398.00 and Rs. 381.55 respectively. The current market cap of the company is Rs. 1145.44 crore.

The Institutions and Non-Institutions held 12.87% and 87.13% stake in the company, respectively.

State-owned Balmer Lawrie & Co is likely to acquire a domestic company offering tour operating services. The company is in active discussion with a mid-size tour company for the acquisition. The company is also in talks with runs tour packages to Europe, the Far East and South Africa. The entity’s travel services arm, Balmer Lawrie Tours and Travel has garnered revenues of Rs 1,132 crore during 2012-13, accounting for nearly 44% of the company’s net sales.

The company is likely to spend close to Rs 500 crore over next two-to-three years in new projects including the setting up of a logistics hub near Kolkata and Vishakhapatnam and a steel barrel plant in Navi Mumbai.

Balmer Lawrie has emerged as multi-activity, multi-technology, multi-location conglomerate with global footprints - along with its joint ventures, encompassing diverse interests in manufacturing and services sector viz. Industrial Packaging, Grease & Lubricants, Leather Chemicals, Tea, Travel and Tours, Logistics Infrastructure and Services and Refinery and Oilfield Services.
