Tata Steel ranks amongst top 25 global producers of metal in 2012

Tata Steel, the flagship company of the Tata Group has improved its rankings in list of top 25 global producers of the metal in 2012 to stand at 11th position, as per the data prepared by World Steel Association (WSA). With production reaching 23 MT, the company has positioned itself in the 11th rank along with Chinese steel maker Shandong Group in the year. In 2011, Tata Steel had secured the 12th rank with a production of 23.8 MT. The company has recently implemented three million tonnes per annum (mtpa) brown-field expansion at Jamshedpur taking the plant capacity to 10 mtpa.

Tata Steel, the flagship company of the Tata group is the first integrated steel plant in Asia and is now the world’s second most geographically diversified steel producer and a Fortune 500 Company.

The company has reported a fall of 16.10% in its net profit at Rs 1309.21 crore in Q4FY13 as compared to net profit of Rs 1560.51 crore in the same quarter previous year.  However, total income of the company has increased by 16.38% to Rs 11245.27 crore as compared to Rs 9662.36 crore in corresponding quarter last year.
