Steel Authority of India (SAIL) has inaugurated the state-of-the-art Coke Ovens Battery-6 Complex at Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP), an integrated steel plant of the maharatna company SAIL on June 01, 2013. The total investment in the entire Coke Ovens Battery complex is around Rs 1,400 crore. The complex comprises a modern environment friendly new Coke Ovens Battery, Coke Dry Cooling Plant (CDCP), Coal Handling Plant (CHP) and Coal Chemicals Unit.
Presently, there is a massive modernization and expansion project being implemented at RSP at an investment of about Rs 12,000 crore. Post expansion, RSP will be more than double its capacity from the current level of 2 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) to 4.5 MTPA of Hot Metal and commensurate increase in crude steel and saleable steel capacity.
