Hindustan Petroleum Corporation (HPCL) is likely to set up Rs 37,229-crore greenfield refinery-cum-petrochemical complex at Barmer in Rajasthan. Earlier, the company had planned this facility in Lilala. The company is looking at solving some land-related issues, as the local government has come out with an alternative location nearby. Further, as per the memorandum of understanding between both the parties, the Rajasthan government will have 26% stake in the project.
HPCL operates two major refineries producing a wide variety of petroleum fuels and specialties, one in Mumbai (west coast) of 6.5 million metric tonnes per annum (MMTPA) capacity and the other in Vishakapatnam, (east coast) with a capacity of 7.5 MMTPA.
